A lover of Chopin and Beethoven, a painter, but a musician at heart; Emanuela Bellezza thrives off of the arts as if it was the air she breathes. A classic pianist from age seven, Emanuela Bellezza diversifies herself by studying French, Russian, and English while mastering her craft as a vocalist, classic pianist, and guitarist. Emanuela Bellezza encompasses all the elements that make up a true artist.
Born in Italy, but currently residing in Los Angeles, Emanuela is writing and co-producing her music with heavy hitters Troy Laureta and Darryl Swann; recording her music in English, Italian, and Spanish to fulfill her desire to be heard as a world artist. Having previously preformed and interviewed on Univision and featured in festivals, Emanuela Bellezza is constantly building her stature in music.
Currently, Emanuela has pieced together a band and is playing shows in the Los Angeles area. Following her success on stage, Emanuela shot a video for “Strong” and is focused on promoting her new EP “Rain and Sunshine of Heart”.
A seasoned singe and budding songwriter, Emanuela Bellezza is a steadily developing artist whose full culmination will yield an artist with lyrical prowess to match her intense vocal delivery. So far, her newest EP Rain and Sunshine of Heart delivers Emanuela’s powerful bittersweet voice nestled in some rich soulful tunes.
I love Emanuela because she has a lot of talent and shows so much promise. She wrote all the songs on her EP (except for Arethra Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way”) and her first language isn’t even English! What she is unable to convey with words, she is able to communicate with her spirited vocals. And boy, does she ever. I think that is where her greatest strength lies. Her dynamic range, and at times raspy vocals accentuate simple lyrics and remind us that when it comes to things like heartbreak, sometimes words just don’t cut it.
On Rain and Sunshine of Heart, Emanuela also sings beautifully in Italian. “Stai Con Mi” has a vulnerability and sweetness to it that is absent on the rest of the album. Just when you think that all this girl can do is sing at the top her lungs, she reveals a warmer and softer tone. The song’s feel is completely different from its English counterpart and the rest of the EP. I think it’s one of the EP’s highlights, even if you can’t speak Italian.
Emanuela also covers Arethra’s “Ain’t No Way” and the result is a good mix of Emanuela’s emotional range. Some of the song even gives me chills. Emanuela is incredibly dynamic and when she taps into this talent, she has the ability to convey emotions as they truly are–complex and changing.
I can’t wait to see what she does next. This is definitely an artist with a lot of talent on the verge of a breakthrough.
Soundtrack To My Day - 12/11/2009
I recently came across Emanuela Bellezza, and I instantly felt like I knew her music. Listening, I realized why - she is this interesting combination of Joss Stone and Taylor Dayne. Her deep, rich and soulful voice rolls heavier with the blues than the rhythm in R & B. I just downloaded her Rain and Sunshine of Heart, a six-song collection. Emanuela was born in Italy, but now makes her home in Los Angeles as she works her way to a career in music. She has studied classical music - loves Chopin and Beethoven - and art, often taking time to paint, yet still considers this music to be her great love, that which comes from her soul.
I Want You Back kicks everything off with a bit of old-school blues, only through the filter of today's artist, like Alicia Keys. There is also some great guitar-work in the bridge, building the blues beautifully. Stay With Me opens with a softness, a lightness, something bespeaking of the love being expressed. That lightness doesn't stick around long, building to a growl of sexual energy, the "stay with me" isn't necessarily about a relationship so much as a warm body beside her in bed. Happiness starting with the organ and a voice, Emanuela makes it plain the blues bordering on funk take center stage again, only a joyous blues, and then all-out funk, extolling her joy to a lover.
In Treat You Right, a little bit of Annie Lennox creeps in to the vocals, the deep tone and strength coming on strong. Stylistically, this is more pop, with a blues twist. Ain't No Way is the Aretha Franklin song, and avoids sounding karaoke with an updating and an Emanuela feel. Stai con me is Stay With Me in her native Italian. The use of the Latin language just amps up the sexuality to me, making this a truly sultry affair.
The above is the song Strong, from the EP released last winter, Situations and Emotions. That particular EP has a stronger rock and pop feel. This Italian temptress opens up her new 6-song EP, “Rain and Sunshine of Heart”, with a strong voice that feels like she’s been in the game for a long time. Showing great range, Emanuela belts out “I Want You Back” with a lot of energy and emotion. Even though it’s a typical song about lost love it feels fresh with her passionate vocals and blaring background guitar.
She follows with a powerful song “Stay With Me” that she also sings in her native tongue on the last track. Pleading for her lover to stay, Emanuela makes her case with a bilingual message that only a fool would back down from.
It’s nice to see that Emanuela has some success with love on the track “Happiness”, which mixes 70’s soul with gospel sounds. It’s an upbeat track that switches moods quite nicely, and I would like to see more of this side of Emanuela. Even though it’s her only upbeat track on the EP her happiness transcends well and she should embrace this more often because love isn’t always heartbreaking, only most of the time.
Emanuela’s biggest weakness is that her lyrical content is very straightforward and doesn’t leave anything to mystery. I think that as she grows she will be more methodical in her delivery and not wear her heart on her sleeve all the time. Love is never straightforward and is usually confusing at best. It will be interesting to see this artist use metaphor and poetry to give her songs more depth.
“Rain and Sunshine of Heart”, is an excellent example of Emanuela’s vocal talent and emotional ability. If she can hone her songwriting skills and take advantage of the Italian language that sounds so beautiful coming from her lips, I predict big things in her future.
