Zoey G

Annjie Houston

With pop, Latin and EDM influences as a foundation, 16-year old Zoey G. creates music with a distinctive signature. On her debut EP, Runaway, listeners will be introduced to a young woman with an old soul; a classically trained musician who has existed exclusively in the 21st Century, and a singer-songwriter whose artistry shines with immense heart.

From her home in Greeley, Colorado, Zoey G. creates songs that illustrate a wide emotional spectrum. The lyrics are precise and literate. “When I write essays, I use rhetorical strategies -- similes and metaphors -- and I carry that into my songwriting,” she explains.

She was four years old when she began studying classical piano. “It’s called classical for a reason,” she notes. “This is the foundation of music. I was taught theory and scales which help me to create music that is more fluid and sonically pleasing.”

Falling “out of love” with the piano at age 12, she picked up the saxophone. In eighth grade she taught herself guitar and took formal classes on the instrument, and over time added ukulele, bass and drums – as well as Logic based recording -- to her formidable skill set. Absorbing the legacy of her father’s collection of rock from the eighties, plus modern pop hits courtesy of her older brother, helped Zoey G. absorb knowledge of music both before and of her time.

Possessing Spanish, Mexican, Italian and Greek heritage, Zoey G. is well advantaged for the global expansion of pop music. Syncopated Latin rhythms and nylon-string guitars underscore the lead single/title track “Runaway,” and while the lyrics on her debut EP are sung in English, she performs an alternate Spanish version of this song titled “Amor Prohibido.”

Although Zoey G.’s expressive voice commands immediate attention, she says that until recently, she was a “closet singer.” After posting a series of YouTube covers, she came to the attention of artist development professionals. She has since two trips to the West Coast, the first to track her EP with producer Stefan Lit and co-producer Shannon McArthur at Kingsize Soundlabs, and the second visit to shoot two music videos with director Sebastian A. Guerra (Chance the Rapper, Kendrick Lamar, Jaden Smith.)

The video that illustrates the single “Runaway” depicts Zoey G. in a number of Southern California locales; the beach, urban streets and the stage of a deserted amphitheater. It is doubtful that any venue where she performs will remain vacant much longer: There might be a master plan in the works that includes relocating to Los Angeles after high school, while continuing to expand the impressive cast of music and video creators with whom she collaborates.

“I’ve been doing music all my life – but whether classical or a band repertory piece, it’s been other people’s music. Now I’ve found my sound,” she says. She wants listeners to know that in many ways she is essentially like many other teenagers. “It’s just that music is my outlet and my way of dealing with what is in my life. This music is me, who I am, and what I’m made of.

Pop Artist Zoey G Debuts New Single, “Runaway”

Zoey G Kicks Off The New Year By Running Away From Societal Norms

Greeley, CO – Pop songstress and multi-instrumentalist Zoey G released her debut track, “Runaway.” The stimulating pop single showcases both her attentive songwriting and skilled musicianship.  Infused with Spanish guitar, and rocksteady flair, the track emits an energy that is vivacious and mesmerizing.  The track is now available for download and streaming worldwide on your favorite digital music platform.

Born in Missoula, MT, Zoey G moved with her family to Colorado at the age of three. At just four years old, she displayed a gift for music, and began taking piano lessons.  Raised in a musically inclined family, Zoey always felt inspired.  As a result, she picked up several instruments over the years, including the alto saxophone, drums, guitar, bass and ukulele. In 2016, she began songwriting. Though her music career is just beginning, her songwriting exhibits a maturity and thoughtfulness that is uncommon amongst her peers.

Zoey G’s unique pop sound and songwriting is influenced by a combination of 80s, 90s and 00s music, as well as classical music.  As a child, she would borrow her family’s iPod and listened to whatever music was available. “It was a mix of my dad’s 80s music, my mom’s 80s-90s music and my brother’s late 90s to 2000s pop songs,” she explains.  The influence of those eras in music can be heard in her single with its reggaeton beat and expressive lyrics. Written about the push and pull that can occur in a budding relationship, “Runaway” reflects the conflict that a person may feel when they’re unsure of where they stand in said relationship. “We all have emotions, whether it be the ‘I don’t care’ side or the ‘I really care’ side. “Runaway” conveys both of those sides, the instrumental portion being the ‘I don’t care,’ and the melody/lyrics being the ‘I really care’ side.”

Produced by Stefan Litrownik and co-produced by Shannon McArthur, “Runaway” is the first single from Zoey G’s upcoming EP, Runaway. Stay tuned as she continues to release more music throughout 2018! “Runaway” is now available for download and streaming worldwide.  Keep up with her on Instagram and Facebook.
